You don't need to be online to use Microsoft 365 apps after they are installed and activated on your devices. However, you will need internet access initially to install and activate Microsoft 365, to install any updates, and to manage your billing. Internet access is also required to access documents stored on OneDrive, unless you install the OneDrive desktop app. However, after your Microsoft 365 apps (like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) are installed, you can use them offline.

With Office Online, you gain access to online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook at no cost. Other productivity apps like Microsoft Teams, Forms, and Sway are included in the list of Office Online offerings too. There are no online versions for Access and Publisher, however.

The online versions of Office apps aren't as full-featured as their desktop counterparts. They don't include the most powerful tools, such as Word's advanced formatting and Excel's detailed graphs or macros.

It's great news that Microsoft Word and other Office apps are available online for free, as you don't have to pay for the basic functionality. If you've never tried Office Online, you should test it out to see if it works for your needs. You could end up saving some money by using it instead of Microsoft 365.

Your Microsoft account is the combination of an email address and password that you use to sign in to services like OneDrive, Xbox LIVE, and Outlook.com. The good news is if you don't need the full suite of Microsoft 365 tools, you can access a number of its apps online for free, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Outlook, Calendar, My Content, Skype, Designer and Clipchamp. Here's how to get them:

In case you have a complex project coming up that requires more of the features not available in MS Word online, you can access everything that the regular Microsoft Word has to offer by subscribing for a free Microsoft Word trial via Microsoft Office 365. You get one month to finish your project and you can use all the apps in MS Office 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, etc.

Collabio Spaces is a text editor with unique ad-hoc collaboration features. This app goes beyond creating and formatting text (although you can do it too, obviously). Collabio turns your device into a server and transmits your document to other people. All you have to do is share a password with them and start co-editing in real time, without uploading your document to a cloud.

Focused is another app for writing purists that does everything to get you concentrated on the words that flow from your keyboard. The app supports beautiful typography, various themes suitable for different times of day as well as ambient soundtracks to make it so you fully immerse in your environment.

Free Office Online may not be a good fit for your largest or most complex projects, since features are more limited than what's offered in Microsoft 365. It has less menu options. For example tabs like Draw and Design are missing from Word online.

When it comes to word processing, Microsoft Word continues to reign supreme over alternatives like Google Docs and Adobe Acrobat. Although these alternatives are getting better and better, making the market more competitive for Microsoft, Word still shines above the rest because it is user-friendly, feature-packed, and allows you to work with documents quickly and effectively.

The most upsetting thing about Word is that it's been hidden behind a paywall for most of the past 30 years. This has left the door open for Google Docs and other word processors and document editors to offer their subpar services for free, which is an extremely compelling offer considering Word and Docs are somewhat similar on the surface.

Microsoft Word is great because it is an easy-to-use word-processing program that allows users to create and edit documents quickly and effectively. It has a wide range of features, such as a spell-checker, grammar checker, table creation, and text formatting. Additionally, Word is compatible with a variety of other Microsoft Office programs, making it a great tool for collaboration, allowing you to stay on target with all of your projects and tasks.

In recent years, Microsoft Word and Google Docs have been quietly waging a war for the title of best word processor. While most of us have been using Word for decades to draft everything from school essays to resumes to important work documents, Google Docs web-based platform is a total game changer for editing and sharing documents in the connected age.

@Cian Allner can confirm that this works on Linux (Ubuntu MINT 20.04.1) using Microsoft Edge (Dev channel) browser. I think the trick is to check in another Wordprocessing application as to how does the font name show up, and then use it as-is). Many fonts have suffixes like -regular, -italic, -bold, in their file-name (.TTF or .OTF) but those are not the font names by default. Often the font name if the part before the hyphen, but many times not. Best is to use a font-viewer tool to extract to font-name and use that in the font search bar of office 365 web/online.

Hello, I had just found a solution, I know its a few years late but may also help others that come across this. If you add the font to your font settings locally then it should appear online on Microsoft 365.

The new Office Online is actually nothing terribly new. Back in 2010, Microsoft added "Office Web Apps" to their Skydrive online storage service, which let you edit your Office documents online with a basic copy of Office 2010-styled apps. It worked nice, but was always hidden inside Skydrive. Now that they've recently rebranded Skydrive as OneDrive, they've also set the Office Web Apps free to live on their own as Office Online, complete with a new Office 2013-style UI.

To start using Office for free, all you've got to do is open your browser, go to Office.com, and select the app you want to use. There's online copies of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote you can choose from, as well as contacts and calendar apps and the OneDrive online storage. To try it out, let's select the Word Online icon. You'll first need to login with a Microsoft account (an account you may have from Hotmail, Xbox Live, or Skydrive), or you can create a new account for free. Then, seconds later, you'll see a screen asking if you'd like to make a new blank document, browse templates, or open a document from OneDrive.

Editing a template is very easy, just as you'd expect. You can select the placeholder text and images, and add the text and content you want instead while keeping the same formatting. And as you're typing, Word will automatically check your document for spelling errors with the language of your choice, and will show the word count at the bottom of the app. It'll even automatically save the document as you're working.

The other Office Online apps work just as nicely. You can make a new PowerPoint presentation online, complete with dozens of pre-made templates or using the default Design themes that you'd expect in PowerPoint. There's only a couple transitions and animations, but everything else is included in PowerPoint Online, including SmartArt graphics and slide notes. You can duplicate slides, copy content between them, insert your own pictures, and more. You can even click the Slideshow button in the bottom left corner and present your presentation full-screen right from PowerPoint Online.

Excel Online is equally nice, and since spreadsheets are mainly about crunching numbers, you'll likely be able to get everything you need to do in Excel done in Excel Online unless you need macros and add-ons. There's all the standard Excel functions and graphs, along with basic tools to sort your data and templates to give you quick ways to crunch numbers. You won't find the more advanced tools like Pivot Tables, but if you open an Excel document that already contains Pivot Tables in Excel Online, those Pivot Tables will continue to work as normal and you can edit them fully online. 041b061a72
